Curriculum
Our school’s vision runs through our curriculum which is written to broaden the children’s horizons and provide them with the essential knowledge they need for future success. The National Curriculum provides the statutory content so that the school can ensure progression and coverage across each key stage. The whole school community is committed to providing learning opportunities of the highest standards so all our pupils may be successful learners. We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to make learning more exciting and to keep it fresh.
We have high expectations of ourselves and all our learners. We encourage children and staff to be problem solvers with a ‘can do’ attitude which we refer to as the ‘Waldingfield Way’. Our curriculum supports children in building their own identity as it gives them opportunities to learn about their own culture and heritage and to develop their understanding about the wider world so they begin to recognise where they fit in. We make sure our school is an inclusive, diverse stimulating environment that supports and celebrates our learning.
At Great Waldingfield each subject is taught discretely. Where a cross curricular link can be used to enhance learning it will be but links are never contrived so children are always clear in what is being taught. We think carefully what we want children to learn and thoughtfully consider how to teach and assess it.
Visits and visitors enrich the learning, for example the children will visit the place of worship for religions studied during the time they are at our primary school. We love to take the learning outside where we can and take advantage of our rural location. We also value the arts – all children in KS2 learn to play the ukulele, guitar, djembe drums and glockenspiel, taught by a music specialist. When children leave our school we hope they have an interest and enthusiasm for the world beyond their own doorstep.
Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Year 3, 4, 5, and 6) study the National Curriculum for both core and foundation stage subjects.
